Converting old style boat lift to bunk style?

I have an old boat lift that I got for cheap for my boat. It only has the 2 cross braces(with a wood plank on top), and 2 flaps on the back to form a V.The newer style lifts all come with bunks, and this seems like it would be easier to get the boat lined up properly on the lift, and give the hull more support.Is there an easy way to convert to the bunk style?

Set your boat on it and measure the height it would require to fit the bunks to the boat as well as the angles. Then cut 4x4 legs, lag them to the crossmembers, then lag the bunks on top. Carpet the bunks if you like. This may sound weird, but how about setting your trailer on top of the crossmembers? Then you could launch your boat with the trailer still attached to get it to your lift. The odd stares at the ramp would be worth the novelty. But it'd be awfully hard on the bearings and lights.
