bought 1969 larson with 1967? merc500 hp four(50 horse)NEED HELP

i recently bought an older larson boat in very good shape for pretty cheap. it housed a mercury 50 horse with serial numbers legible. i am having trouble locating what year EXACTLY the motor is. i would just be curious if somebody would be able to point me in the right direction as to where to locate some parts etc. i stumbled upon a site when i had first got the boat/motor that you could type in the mercury motor serial number and it would tell you what year. it also had options for ordering parts(most were discontinued) I really want to get this motor running asap. everything is VERY clean and compression looks like it reads good. please help

you need to go back to the repair and maintenance section and click on mercury outboards.

if it where a johnson/evinrude i could tell you.......... but merc, i only have one of those and it runs like a champ------------ '74 9.8........ she can sit for 3 months (or more lol) and start with at least the second pull

Look for the motor ID tag...may be on a metal plate on top of the transom clamp or on the side of the motor somewhere. Post the model/serial number in the Merc forum and someone can date it for you. Early sixties Mercs were white, later ones...late sixties, went to black color with a colored stripe around the top cowl. Stripe on my 73 Merc 500 was blue. Nice motors, real workhorses when they are running right...not hard to maintain either.

thanks for the welcome i am really pretty new to boating. but i am pretty sure i got a steal with the merc/larson i bought, i just need to fix a few things up. i will try to look in the other section....

i think i corrected it
